Woeste Willem

Before you come

Everything you might want to know or arrange before you set off.

Address #

Woeste Willem
Willemspad 1
9164 LV Buren, Ameland
The Netherlands

By ferry #

Ameland is reached by ferry with Wagenborg Passagiersdiensten, from Holwert to Nes. The crossing takes about 45 minutes.

Book your crossing well in advance, especially if you are bringing the car. In high season and around the holidays, sailings fill up quickly.

Tip: the Ameland Boot & Getij app #

We use the Ameland Boot & Getij app ourselves. It shows current sailing times and the tides, and you can set an alert for when a space frees up on a full sailing. Handy if you are travelling by car or want to move your return crossing.

The app is not ours; we simply find it works well. You still book with Wagenborg as usual.

Bring the car, or not? #

Either works. Woeste Willem is within walking distance of the bus stop and the beach, and on Ameland you can get almost everywhere by bike. If you want to be flexible with day trips, or you are travelling with small children and a lot of luggage, the car is of course convenient.

Parking #

Woeste Willem is reachable by car. The last stretch of the Willemspad is officially a footpath, but we and our guests are allowed to drive along it and park at the house. There is room for 2 cars.

By bus #

The Willemspad stop (line 2) is less than a minute’s walk from the house. The bus runs to and from the ferry terminal in Nes; departure times connect with the regular ferries, not with the fast service.

What is included, and what should you bring? #

Included in your booking #

Available as optional extras #

You book these separately. If you have not booked them, please bring your own:

Not sure whether you booked them? Check your VVV confirmation, or send us a message.

Bring these in any case #

Babies and small children #

On the ground floor there is a separate baby and children’s bedroom with a wooden cot (55x110 cm), a toddler bed (70x160 cm), a changing table and a washbasin. With children in mind, there is also:

Bed linen for the cot can be added as an option to your VVV booking. You are of course also welcome to bring your own fitted sheet and sheet/blanket/cot duvet. If you would like to use the toddler bed as well (instead of a single bed), let Lianne know via WhatsApp well before you arrive. The right size of bed linen will then be ready for you.

Smoking and pets #

Smoking and pets are not permitted at Woeste Willem.
